Before 1954

Mobile Craftsmanship Period: Before 1954, the craftsmen of Bối Khê village primarily worked in a mobile manner, often organized into craft guilds. These guilds usually consisted of people who were relatives, with a master craftsman leading them. The main products during this period were religious items, serving the needs of religious and spiritual projects.

The 1989 – 1991 Period

Export Market Crisis: The period from 1989 to 1991 marked a challenging time when the only export markets for handicrafts, the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, collapsed. This led to the cessation of lacquerware production, and Bối Khê village faced many challenges.

The 1960s

Beginning of the Prosperous Period: In the 1960s, the demand for exporting handicrafts to the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe began to rise sharply. This was the period when Bối Khê village started to flourish, thanks to the strong demand from the export market.                                                                                                                                                                  

1996

Revival of Lacquerware Craft: The year 1996 marked the revival of lacquerware craft in Bối Khê village. This craft began to recover after years of interruption and continued to develop thanks to the creativity and efforts of the artisans.

The 1970s

Continued Prosperity: During the 1970s, Bối Khê village continued to thrive due to the strong export market. The entire commune had four lacquerware cooperatives: Trường Sơn in Bối Khê, Ngọ Hạ, Mỹ Thịnh in the Trung village, and Hợp Thành in the Thượng village, producing a wide range of handicraft products for export.                                                                                 

From 1996 to the Present

Continuous Development: Since 1996, the lacquerware craft in Bối Khê village has continued to grow. The village’s handicraft products not only meet domestic demand but are also exported to many international markets, contributing to the local economic development.
